Airport Authority and City of Burbank Announce Progress in Proposed ‘Global’ Settlement

Preliminary Terms Would Bar New Passenger Terminal for 10 Years, Permit Development of Limited Aviation Facilities Needed for Normal Operation, and Promote Joint Effort to Address Nighttime Aircraft Noise

BURBANK, Calif., June 23, 2004 — After nearly a decade of legal wrangling and contention over aircraft noise issues and development of facilities at Bob Hope Airport, the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority and the City of Burbank have announced that discussions between their two staffs have yielded preliminary terms of a “global” agreement that would set guidelines on Airport development for the next 10 years.

Note: The Airport Authority approved a series of interrelated documents comprising the proposed Development Agreement on October 27th and forwarded the documents to the City of Burbank for consideration. All documents were included in the Authority Agenda packet, which is published here in its entirety. The documents include Development Agreement, Final Mitigated Negative Declaration, Public Utilities Code Applications and Planned Development Applications. Interested parties should consult the City of Burbank for details of the City review and approval process for the proposed Agreement.

The Authority has issued a Notice of Intent to Adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration in connection with the project that embodies the elements of the proposed agreement with the City of Burbank. Public comment is closed as of October 18th. The Authority is now drafting responses to the comments received.
